Series 1: Caldwell Family (1909-1953)
Contains personal letters, photographs, and clippings in relation to the Caldwell family. Folder 1 contains clippings from the Fort Smith, Arkansas and Poteau, Oklahoma group, and unidentified portrait photographs from Jennie May Caldwell are found in folder 2.

Series 2: Englert Family (1888-1949)
Contains clippings, small notebooks, and other familial materials related to the Englert family. Family photographs and death notices are located in folder 6. Box 2 contains four notebooks, Ida Stricker’s, wife of Joseph “Jo” Englert, German diary and genealogical record, and an address book with A.L. Englert’s monogram.

Caldwell and Englert Genealogy Information
Mrs. Leo Caldwell, born Miss Jennie May Neighbors, was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Neighbors, and granddaughter of Mrs. Jennie Mayberry and Mr. W. A. Mayberry. She married Mr. Leo Caldwell whose parents were Molly and William Featherston Caldwell. Mr. And Mrs. Caldwell had five daughters, and five sons: Mrs. L.N. Bolden; Mrs. Leo Kirk of Armory, Mississippi; Mrs. Fred Clayton, Houston, Texas; Mrs. Aubrey Hargrove, Galveston, Texas; Mrs. Bun Bennett, Poteau, Oklahoma; Jerry Caldwell, Spiro, Oklahoma; Henry Caldwell, Poteau, Oklahoma; Jack Caldwell, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Clyde Caldwell, Tonkawa, Oklahoma, and Joe Caldwell living at the Caldwell residence. Mrs. Leo Caldwell resided in Poteau, Oklahoma before moving to her last place of residence, Fort Smith, Arkansas.

Mrs. Leo Caldwell’s parents were Mr. and Mrs. J. B. (Bill) Neighbors of Fort Smith, Arkansas. There were ten children in the family, six girls and four boys. At the time of Mrs. Neighbor’s death in 1949, the daughters were listed as Mrs. Jennie May Caldwell, Mrs. Inez Geneger, Mrs. Eva Englert, Mrs. Pearl Byrum, Mrs. Lela Reynolds, and Mrs. Beulah Landers. The four sons were William, Ernest, James and Ray.

Mr. Leo Caldwell’s parents, Molly and William Featherston Caldwell, had seven children. At the time of William’s death, seven children and his widow were living. His children were Ed (John Edward) and Robert Caldwell of Poteau; Leo Caldwell of Greenwood; Mrs. G. A. McNabb of Greenwood; Mrs. Matt Camp of Cameron, Oklahoma; Mrs. (Alice Caldwell) J. W. Bone, and Miss Margaret Caldwell of Poteau. John Edward Caldwell eventually married Fannie Emiline and had five sons and daughters. Robert (H.) Caldwell married and had five daughters and six sons.

Mrs. Eva Englert is related through marriage to the Englert family, possibly as the wife of Jo Englert. Jo Englert, formally named Andrew Joseph Englert, moved as a youth to western Kansas with his parents Joseph Englert and Eva Klein of Germany. Mr. Joseph Englert [Senior Joseph] married Miss Ida C. Stricker of Saxony, Germany and had nine children, two died at a young age. The family moved to Pond Creek, Oklahoma Territory approximately 1896 before moving to Haskell, Oklahoma where they resided for over 40 years. Mr. Englert worked for the Santa Fe Railroad Co. before engaging in the lumber and grain business. He was considered a “pioneer” of Haskell, Oklahoma and was the director of the first Haskell bank. He died in March 1924, survived by his wife, and seven children: Mrs. Claud Knight, Coyle, Oklahoma; Andrew C. Englert, Boynton, Oklahoma; Joe E. Englert; Herbert Englert; Lawrence Englert; Bessie Englert; and Charlotte Englert. One sister, Miss Barbara Englert, Okeene, Oklahoma, and one brother, Mr. John Englert, Cimmorran, Kansas, also survived Mr. Englert.
