A stock certificate is a legal document certifying ownership of a specific number of shares in a corporate companies stock. At one time corporations were required to issue a paper stock certificate to make the purchase legal, but that is no longer mandatory. Scripophily is the action of collecting old stock certificates for their artistic and historic merit.
The collection contains 28 stock certificates from gold and silver mining companies between 1878 and 1927. They are arranged alphabetically by company name.
Donated by the Putney Winn family.
