Oklahoma Heritage Concert – The Dirty Thirties

Watch Oklahoma history come to life at the National Cowboy Museum with stage performances by Rodeo Opry. This interactive program teaches Oklahoma history, music and culture with an emphasis on Woody Guthrie, the Dust Bowl, and the 1930s and the special exhibition, Dorothea Lange: Politics of Seeing. NewsChannel 4 and the National Cowboy Museum are teaming up to present Weatherschool, a great way for kids to learn about Oklahoma’s ever-changing weather in a lively format with the KFOR 4Warn Storm Team. Following Weatherschool, explore the Museum’s exhibitions to discover the role of weather in the West. Kids Take Over the Cowboy: Picturing the Past

Photographer Dorothea Lange captured images of Americans, including many Oklahomans, as they struggled through the Great Depression. Listen to stories about her life and work at 10:15 a.m. and 11:15 a.m., create Depression-era toys including a rag doll and mini soapbox car, partake in a derby down the Museum hallway and sample food. Wrap up with a showing of Kit Kitteridge: An American Girl. Free for Museum members or with Museum admission. Available while supplies last.

Drop-In Drawing: Leaders Downfall

On the second Sunday of the month, explore your creative side, practice different techniques and skills and be inspired by the artwork in the galleries and gardens. Borrow drawing materials from the Visitor Services desk in the Museum lobby (while supplies last) or bring your own! Kids Take Over the Cowboy: Western Landscape Art

Welcome back to the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum! Join us for our first post-quarantine Kids Take Over the Cowboy with extended activity hours. We’re rolling out everything we didn’t get to share while safely sheltering-in-place. Be among the first to explore Liichokoshkomo’, the Museum’s brand new outdoor playscape. Determine what to pack in your covered wagon, explore Native American dwellings, and figure out how frequently the geyser erupts! ARTSPACE at Untitled artists will be onsite to help you create a screen print inspired by Warhol and the West, on exhibit through July 5. Local artist Courtney Abbott will show how to grab a paintbrush and create your own Western landscape masterpiece just like the ones you’ll find throughout…
