Horse Trainer
Glenn Randall arrived in the world on Christmas Day, 1908, at Melbeta, Nebraska. As a young boy, he broke mounts for the U.S. Cavalry at Fort Robinson. Later, in Wyoming, he trained race horses. Moving to California in the late 1940s, he managed a ranch where cowboy star Roy Rogers boarded his mounts.
Randall took on the training of Rogers’ horse, Trigger, and for 24 years he worked with the actor. Randall also trained mounts for Gene Autry, Tex Ritter, and Rex Allen. In 1957 Randall was hired to prepare the chariot horses for the famous race in the movie Ben Hur. During the 1950s and 1960s he provided animals for movie projects in Spain, Germany, England, Austria, Italy, France, Australia, Canada, and Mexico.
Based in Newhall, California, Randall’s operation also provided horses for rodeo acts, horse shows, fairs, and expositions all across the nation. Among rodeo hands and movie producers, he was the acknowledged master of his craft. Glenn Randall died in 1992 in Newhall.
