All-Around Champion Cowboy, 1985-1987, 2011
Bareback Bronc Rider, Champion, 1985-1986
In 1957 future champion Lewis Feild was born at Salt Lake City, Utah. After attending college, he became a professional rodeo hand in 1980.
An aggressive competitor and bareback riding specialist, he quickly became a top money earner. Feild’s honors included winning the bareback Rookie of the Year award in 1980, the coveted Linderman Award in 1981, and three consecutive all-around crowns. He also ranked nationally in the saddle-bronc event. Of his victories he said, “Some people seemed to think it was a fluke that a rough stock cowboy could win the all-around title. Maybe now they’ll change their minds.”
A businessman who made a good living at his trade, Lewis Feild regularly competed in 100 rodeos a year. In 1986 he set a record for the most money won in a single season. Lewis Feild ranches near Elk Ridge, Utah.
