Stacey Scholarship Fund
About the Stacey Foundation
In accordance with the will of the late Anna Lee Stacey, a trust fund has been created for the education of young men and women who aim to make art their profession.
Details
In accordance with the will, the scholarship, known as “The John F. and Anna Lee Stacey Scholarship Fund,” is open to United States citizens, both men and women, single or married, irrespective of race, creed, or color. The age limit is between 18 and 35 years. Award amounts vary annually and range from $500 to $5,000 per recipient. At the discretion of the Committee, these may be awarded in quarterly installments.
The Committee reserves the right to disburse funds in whole or in part, as it deems advisable from careful study of the merits of the applicants as shown by their work and personal data. The decision of the Committee shall be final. Also, the Committee reserves the right to withhold appointments if, in its judgment, the work submitted fails to comply with the required standard or is inferior in quality.
The purpose of the Scholarship, in accordance with the clear stipulation of the Stacey’s will, is to foster high standard in the study of form, color, drawing, painting, design, and technique, as these are expressed in modes showing patent affinity with the classical tradition.
ONLY THOSE SHOULD APPLY WHO ARE SKILLED AND DEVOTED TO THIS CLASSICAL OR CONSERVATIVE TRADITION.
The terms of the Staceys’ will expressly limit the scholarship to the fine arts of painting and drawing. Work in related and practical fields (such as sculpture, collage, etc.) is inadmissible except as supplementary to the required work. Types of work that DO NOT meet the qualifications for this award include sculpture, collage, printmaking, anime, animation, graphic design, illustration, fashion design and photography.
The online application will ask the applicant to outline their ambitions and plans as well as submit no more than 6 examples of their paintings/drawings for judging. Below are suggested subject categories. It is not necessary to provide something from each category:
- Painting from life
- Drawing from the figure (nude)
- Composition
- Landscape
- Any other examples of your work which you think advisable
In general, the recipient may use the funds granted them in any way they wish to further their art education along conservative lines, but the Committee reserves the right to make recommendations. Each successful competitor will be required to submit a brief quarterly report together with digital images of their work and a more complete report at the termination of the scholarship.
Applications will be accepted from October 1 through the following February 1. Notification will be emailed to applicants in early April. Check(s) will be mailed to winner(s) in May. If you have questions or need assistance, please email scholarship@nationalcowboymuseum.org.
