Rough stock contender Perry Ivory was born in 1905 on the JF Ranch at Dorris, California. At age 14, Perry ran away from home and eventually found work as a horse breaker in Alturas, where he also caught the rodeo bug. He made his first bronc riding appearance at Madison Square Garden in 1921 when he was only 16 years old.

Perry Ivory specialized in saddle broncs, placing in the average in New York five consecutive times; taking first at Red Bluff in 1922: first at Salinas in 1929, 1930 and 1931; and first at Klamath Falls in 1934. In 1924, he traveled with Tex Austin’s first international rodeo program to London, England. During these years, he continued to work as a horse breaker.

In 1937, Perry Ivory retired as a rodeo contestant and went to work for Harry Rowell as a stock handler with the Rowell Ranch Rodeo. Over a period of 10 years, he helped many young bronc
riders get a start in the sport. Perry Ivory died in 1983.
