Historical Sketch
A stock certificate is a legal document certifying ownership of a specific number of shares in a corporate companies stock. At one time corporations were required to issue a paper stock certificate to make the purchase legal, but that is no longer mandatory. Scripophily is the action of collecting old stock certificates for their artistic and historic merit.
Scope & Content Note
The collection contains 28 stock certificates from gold and silver mining companies between 1878 and 1927. They are arranged alphabetically by company name.
