Saddle Bronc Rider, Champion, 1946
Born at Mannville, Alberta, Canada, in 1912, Jerry Ambler was raised on a ranch and came naturally to rodeo competition. Although he started in the arena as a steer and bull rider, Ambler became known as one of the best and flashiest bronc riders of all time.
Jerry Ambler hit his stride as a bronc rider in the mid-1940s by studying the bucking styles of the best broncs and matching his own skill to them. During 1946 and 1947, he won or placed in the money at Calgary, Pendleton, Fort Worth, Houston, Denver, Tucson, Phoenix, San Francisco, Boston and New York. Ambler’s consistency and style brought him the RCA saddle-bronc riding championship in 1946, and the IRA saddle-bronc riding championships in 1946 and 1947.
During his later years, Ambler did stunt work in Hollywood and ran a tack shop in Utah, where he designed the famed Jerry Ambler-pattern bronc spurs which are still prized today. Jerry Ambler died in a car accident in 1958.
