Rodeo Announcer
Born on a Nebraska ranch in 1929, Hadley Barrett began his rodeo career riding bareback broncs and bulls. He had other passions as well and formed Hadley Barrett and The Westerners, a band popular at rodeo dances. His singing, song writing and guitar playing would eventually become intertwined with his rodeo work.
Hadley Barrett has had several roles within the rodeo world – singer, contestant, television host and mentor – but his place behind the microphone as an announcer for every major rodeo and hundreds of smaller ones throughout the United Sates has made him a rodeo legend. In 1965, he joined the PRCA and went on to establish himself as a premier rodeo announcer. He became one of the first to announce on horseback and is credited with approaching accidents and mishaps within the arena with honesty and dignity. In 2007 he was on the road or announcing for 223 days.
Over the course of his career, Barrett was named the PRCA Announcer of the Year four times and worked four National Finals Rodeos, including the 1967 National Finals Steer Roping. He has also announced the Canadian National Finals seven times. In1999 he was inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame, and most recently he was awarded the Buffalo Bill Award at the Buffalo Bill Rodeo in Nebraska in 2006. Barrett resides in Kersey, Colorado.
