Saddle Up and join the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum’s National Day of the Cowboy Celebration
Museum partners with Oklahoma Children’s Theatre to present amusing children’s program
OKLAHOMA CITY – Pin on your badge, dust off your boots, and join the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum’s annual celebration for National Day of the Cowboy on July 28, 2018, from 10:30 a.m. – Noon.
The fun begins with a larger-than-life performance of Pecos Bill and the Ghost Stampede by Oklahoma Children’s Theatre. In this performance, young Missy Cougar-Wildcat has always wished she could live an adventure as big as her home state. When the roughest, rowdiest cowboy of all enters her world, she quickly finds herself up to her braids in a new legend packed with action, laughs, and the world’s largest prairie dog.
After the play, Jeffrey Richardson, Curator of Exhibits at Farmington Museum in New Mexico, will lead an interactive family tour through the Museum’s thought-provoking American Cowboy Gallery. Curious minds can run free and explore more than 8,000 square feet of the most extensive exhibition of the working cowboy in the United States.
“National Day of the Cowboy is a special way to celebrate the contributions of the cowboy and cowgirl to America’s culture and heritage,” said Museum President and CEO Natalie Shirley. “There is nothing more exciting for a child than to dress up in their favorite costume, partake in an interactive and exciting play, and have the opportunity to roam the halls of this magnificent Museum learning and imagining what life would be like as a cowboy.”
National Day of the Cowboy first began in 2005 and continues to embrace the cowboy way of life in more than 11 states today. The performance begins at 10:30 a.m.; gallery tour begins at 11:30 a.m. Free with Museum admission.
