Hubbard Russell managed his family’s Conejo Ranch in Ventura County, California, becoming a leading figure in the state’s cattle industry.
He was President of the California Cattlemen’s Association in 1923 and of the American National Cattlemen’s Association in 1940. From 1948 to 1957, he was a representative of Western cattle producers on the National Livestock and Meat Board.
When he and his brothers sold the Conejo Ranch in 1939, he purchased the 45,000-acre Cuyama Ranch in Santa Barbara County.
