Born in 1908 at El Reno, Oklahoma, Eddie Curtis was closely associated with rodeo sports for nearly forty years. Growing up, he took a keen interest in cowboying and entered his first competition in 1926 at Ryan, Oklahoma.
Eddie Curtis was a four-event man, competing regularly in saddle and bareback bronc riding, bull riding, and steer wrestling. He often attended the great Madison Square Garden showdown, in 1937 finishing in the money in all three rough-stock riding events. In later years, Curtis was sought after by contractors as a chute boss and arena director.
A founder and longtime director of the Cowboys Turtle Association, Eddie Curtis contributed much toward improved relations between contestants and committeemen. Curtis ranched near Nowata, Oklahoma, for many years prior to his death in 1965.
