Born in New Mexico in 1899, Everett Bowman grew up on Texas and Arizona ranches. A practiced cowboy from his youth, he entered his first rodeo at Salt Lake City in 1924. At one time or another, Bowman contested in every event.

Known as “”The George Washington of Rodeo,”” Everett Bowman was instrumental in the formation of the Cowboys Turtle Association (forerunner of the PRCA), the first organization representing cowboys in the sport. Elected CTA president in 1937, Bowman did more to organize and support contesting cowboys during his seven-year tenure than any president since.

Everett Bowman was also an all-around contender, capturing ten championships in as many years. (His trophies comprise one of the largest groupings in the Hall’s extensive collections.) He retired from competition in 1943, but he remained a prominent spokesman for organized rodeo sport until his death in a plane crash in 1971.
