Rodeo Stock Contractor and Producer

Born in 1924 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Harry Vold entered the arena as a rough-stock rider, but he soon opted for the role of rancher and rodeo stockman. Over a period of 40 years as a contractor, he gained a widespread reputation for his “born to buck” horses and bulls at notable rodeo venues across Canada and the United States.

Currently the largest in the business, the Vold Rodeo Company has supplied livestock and expertise for some of the leading rodeos in North America, including Cheyenne (34 years), Colorado Springs (41 years), Prescott (34 years), and the National Finals (50 years). Vold’s skill and diplomacy in conducting a well-organized and exciting program has placed him in several rodeo Halls of Fame, among them those at Ellensburg, Pendleton, Cheyenne, Colorado Springs, and Dodge City; as well prompting his induction by both the CPRA and PRCA.

Now a legendary figure in rodeo, Vold has been named Pro Rodeo Stock Contractor of the Year 11 times. In response to rodeo critics, he observes: “People worry about the welfare of these horses and bulls, …[but] at a rodeo like Cheyenne, each animal will buck no more than twice in 10 days; that’s 20 seconds of work in 10 days, not a bad life.”
