Rodeo Clown and Bullfighter

Chuck Henson was born into a rodeo family at Arcadia, Florida, in 1931. His father was Charlie “Heavy” Henson, a rodeo competitor in several events, while his mother was Margie Greenough Henson of the famous “Riding Greenoughs” of Montana. Chuck grew up on Wild West and rodeo circuits across the country.

Henson entered rodeo as a competitor in bronc and bull riding, steer wrestling, and calf and team roping, but he soon turned to clowning and bullfighting. Over the years he performed at dozens of small venues, as well major rodeos such as Edmonton and Calgary in Canada and Fort Worth, San Antonio, Tucson, Salt Lake City and San Francisco in the United States. In addition to bullfighting and clowning several times at both the Canadian National Finals and the Indian National Finals rodeos, Henson was tapped to perform at the National Finals Rodeo in 1967 and 1971. He was named PRCA Clown of the Year in 1977.

Chuck Henson also served rodeo sport as a member of the PRCA Board of Directors from 1974 through 1977. He was inducted into the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame in 1995. After nearly 50 years in the arena saving downed riders and making people laugh, Henson retired in 2000 to his Tucson, Arizona, home.
