The 2019 honoree was Sheila Johnson, business mogul, philanthropist and co-founder of Black Entertainment Television. This award is a way to show respect and admiration for outstanding women, who through true grit and determination, strive to make a difference while leaving a lasting legacy for us all. Previous honorees include Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, Reba McEntire, Nadia Comaneci, Kristin Chenoweth, U.S. Navy Admiral Michelle Howard, Donna Shirley, Mary Higgins Clark and Mo Anderson.
The 2019 luncheon also served as a celebration of the Annie Oakley Society’s signature project opening in the spring of 2020. This unique educational experience named, Liichokoshkomo’, pronounced lee-cho-kosh-ko-MO’ (the Chickasaw phrase for “Let’s play!”), shares aspects of our diverse Western heritage, core values, conflict resolution, through hands-on/minds-on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) integrated programming. This experience will promote learning through play-based environments placing children on a path of discovery, lifelong learning, innovation, literacy, and creativity.
The Annie Oakley Society strives to be a catalyst for change in the lives of future generations. Please join in the fun as we make a difference to preserve the Western values we hold so dear.
