What is an immersive?

IMMERSIVE

(im•mer•sive | \ ih-MUR-siv \ | adjective)

A museum exhibition designed to surround visitors with multi-sensory stimuli – such as large-scale projections, sound scapes, interactive technology and atmospheric environments – in order to create the feeling of stepping inside a story, artwork or historical moment rather than simply observing it.

How long does the show last?

Each showing is approximately 40 minutes.

Is this a separately ticketed experience?

Yes. The Cowboy: An Immersive Journey requires its own timed ticket.

Should I buy tickets in advance?

Advance tickets are strongly recommended. You can check our online ticketing calendar to see the show times that are selling fast.

Is a VIP Experience available?

Yes. The VIP option includes exclusive memorabilia and priority access admission.

Do Museum members receive benefits?

Yes — Museum members receive free admission to The Museum and discounted tickets to the Immersive.

Is this a limited-time exhibition?

Yes. The experience debuts exclusively in Oklahoma City before traveling the world and is available for a limited run. It will return to Oklahoma City in July.

Are there places to sit?

Limited seating is available for guests. Guests are encouraged to move around the space for the best experience.

Do you allow food or beverages inside the immersive space?

For safety and equipment protection, food and drinks (including water bottles) are not allowed. 

Is the experience accessible to wheelchair users and other mobility devices?

Yes — the Museum is fully accessible, and the immersive environment should be navigable for wheelchairs, scooters and walkers. Scooters are available by request at the front desk.

Does the experience contain flashing lights or loud sound effects?

This exhibition contains bright lights that may cause discomfort for people with photosensitive epilepsy. It also includes depictions of motion that can cause motion sickness. Viewer discretion is advised. 

Part of the immersive experience is the music and sound effects, which can be loud at times. This may cause discomfort for people with sensitive hearing. Earplugs are available upon request. 

If you need to leave the gallery, you are welcome to re-enter through the lobby after taking a break.

Is the room dark?

The immersive environment is dimly lit to enhance projections. Exits are clearly marked with lighted signs.

Is it appropriate for children?

Yes. The show is family-friendly; however, some scenes (e.g., thunderstorms, cattle drives, loud moments) may be intense for very young children.

Is photography or video allowed?

Photos and videos are encouraged! Be sure to tag us “@nationalcowboymuseum” on Instagram and “@ncwhm” on Facebook and X/Twitter.

How early should I arrive before my scheduled time?

Arrive 10–15 minutes early to allow for check-in.

Are restrooms nearby?

Restrooms are located just outside the immersive space in the Museum’s west hallway near the Canyon Princess sculpture.
