Bio

Ronald Reagan (1911–2004) was the 40th President of the United States (1981–1989), a prominent conservative leader, and a former Hollywood actor. Born in Tampico, Illinois, Reagan grew up in a modest family and developed a passion for acting and sports. He attended Eureka College, where he studied economics and sociology, before embarking on a successful career in Hollywood during the 1930s and 1940s. Over two decades, Reagan appeared in over 50 films, including Westerns, becoming a well-known actor.

Reagan’s political career began in the 1950s when he served as president of the Screen Actors Guild. Initially a Democrat, he shifted to conservative Republican views, supporting Barry Goldwater’s presidential run in 1964. Reagan’s rise in politics accelerated when he was elected governor of California in 1966, serving two terms (1967–1975), where he promoted conservative fiscal policies and law and order.

In 1980, Reagan won the U.S. presidency by a landslide, defeating incumbent Jimmy Carter. As president, he focused on reducing government intervention in the economy, lowering taxes, and increasing defense spending, which became known as “Reaganomics.” Reagan’s foreign policy was marked by a hard stance against the Soviet Union, contributing to the end of the Cold War. He famously called for the dismantling of the Berlin Wall in 1987.

Reagan survived an assassination attempt in 1981 and remained a beloved figure throughout his presidency. After leaving office in 1989, he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 1994 and passed away in 2004. Reagan’s legacy as a transformative president endures in American political and cultural life.
