Berenice Dossey Bolen

Rodeo Trick Rider
A featured trick rider in rodeos across the United States and Canada, Berenice Dossey was born in 1913 at Ellensburg, Washington. She started riding at age three and grew up running wild horses with her father and uncle on their ranch.
In the 1930s she was discovered by Zack Miller and hired for the 101 Ranch Show, and she also traveled for Everett Colburn and other promoters. As a trick rider, she performed amazing feats on her two horses, Tony and Sundee. Her most famous stunt was the Roman stand, in which she stood, arms upraised, atop a galloping horse. Berenice Taylor Dossey (wife of top hand Carl Dossey) captured the championship in trick riding in 1941 at Denver and in 1945 at Fort Worth.
Noted for her glamour and beauty, she designed her own colorful costumes. Despite her heavy performance schedule, she raised a family and did charity work. Retired from the arena in 1956, Berenice Taylor Dossey Bolen died in 1974.
