Steer Wrestler
Frank McCarroll (1892-1954), who from 1911 through 1930 was one of the premier cowboys during the “golden age” of rodeo. In 1915, he met and married Bonnie Treadwell and together they traveled the rodeo circuit where they were crowd pleasers everywhere they performed.
McCarroll won steer wrestling championships in Cheyenne, Pendleton, Fort Worth, Chicago and Madison Square Garden. In 1923 at Yankee’s Stadium, he defended his World Championship title with two broken ribs. Called the best bulldogger of the times, he threw a steer in six seconds at Madison Square Garden and bested 10 more steers in a total of 124 seconds, a record that stood in New York City for more than 10 years.
