EVENTS
Bareback Rider
Clyde Vamvoras (1942-1985) began riding broncs at age 13 in Lake Charles, Louisiana, by paying a local farmer to let him ride. He went on to win the Louisiana High School Rodeo All-Around Championship at age 18. In 1963, his name began appearing regularly in the RCA top 15, and he won back-to-back World Champion bareback titles in 1967 and 1968. He qualified for the NFR 11 straight years from 1963 through 1973, a streak that would have been longer, but injuries kept him out of the top 15 in 1962 and 1974. Vamvoras was known as a free spirit and stories about him have become legendary. He was inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in 2002.
