Harry Brennan

World Champion Saddle Bronc Rider, 1904
One of the first regular contestants in competitive rodeo, Harry Brennan was born in 1881 at Sheridan, Wyoming. By 1900 he was a well-known bronc rider, and he remained a top contender in the sport for over a decade.
Considered by many as “”the father of modern bronc riding,”” Harry Brennan’s spurring style (from neck to cantleboard) set the pattern for modern contestants. He also is credited with helping to draw up the first “”Cheyenne Rules,”” from which many of today’s customs and codes evolved.
Harry Brennan, a true rodeo pioneer, was proclaimed the undisputed World Champion Bronc Rider at the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo in 1904. He died in 1922.
