Champion calf roper Chris Lybbert was born in 1954 at Ephrata, Washington. Lybbert attended California Polytechnic Institute in the 1970s and entered professional rodeo in 1976.

Lybbert quickly became a top contender in calf roping, steer wrestling, and team roping. Throughout the 1980s he traveled in three regional circuits and usually finished in the money. His skills brought him to the National Finals Rodeo in 1979, and he finished the season eighth in the all-around, tenth in calf roping, and thirteenth in steer wrestling. Lybbert capped his career with the 1982 all-around and the 1986 calf-roping championships. He was second in the all-around in 1986. In 1982 he became the first to post a $100,000 season prior to competing in that year’s NFR.

In 1990 Chris Lybbert ranked seventh in the all-around, and he continued to compete well into the decade.
