Born at Ashland, Kansas, in 1930, Duane Hennigh became a force to be reckoned with in rodeo during the 1950s and 1960s. He made a name for himself during that period riding bulls and broncs and wrestling steers around the West and at the championship venue at Madison Square Garden in New York.

In 1954 Hennigh captured the Best All-Around Champion title at the Garden. During the next three years, he took three consecutive championship titles at the Wild Bill Hickok Rodeo, and he duplicated this feat, capturing the all-around title at Woodward, Oklahoma, in 1961, 1962 and 1963. (In one year, he won both the bareback and steer wrestling honors.) Hennigh repeated at Woodward again in 1966 and 1967. Because of his bull riding skill, he was one of 10 contenders invited to the “49er Ride of Champions” at Greybull, Wyoming, in 1957.

Hennigh now resides near Sayre, Oklahoma, where he breaks and trains quarter horses.
