John Edwards of Red Lodge, Montana, was born December 9, 1941 in Rhinebeck, New York. He was a member of the Rodeo Cowboys Association and then later the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. Edwards competed at Calgary, Cheyenne, Denver, Houston, Walla Walla and Ellensburg.
Until 2011 when Kaycee Feild tied him, John Edwards held the record for winning the first three rounds of bareback riding at the 1969 National Finals Rodeo. He judged several major rodeos including the 1977 NFR.
