Most examples of early floss embroidery were produced by tribes in the Canadian Sub-Arctic and Northern Plains regions. Embroidery is part of the same tradition as bead and quillwork. Most floss embroidery is a hard-twist silk thread, although cotton floss was also used. Like glass beads, embroidery thread was available at some of the trading posts.
