Read the West Book Club: Braiding Sweetgrass
June 12, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 2:15 pm
In Braiding Sweetgrass, Robin Wall Kimmerer draws on her experience as botanist, Native American and mother. As a member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation, Kimmerer holds to the idea that we have much to learn from plants and animals about living in reciprocal relationship with the world around us. Through a braid of memoir, scientific writing and indigenous storytelling, Kimmerer shows how other living beings — asters and goldenrod, corn and beans, and salamanders, strawberries and pecan trees — teach us their lessons and offer us their gifts. And she hopes that we, the reader, will learn to live in grateful reciprocity with the world around us.
