Exhibition Overview

Highways, Google maps, 70 mph speed limits and efficient gas mileage have made travel easy in the United States, but this was not always the case. Overland routes, trails and railroads have moved people, animals and supplies across this vast country for centuries. Through photographs, rare book illustrations, maps and related ephemera, visitors will explore some of the country’s most famous thoroughfares including: the Oregon Trail, the Chisholm Trail, the Transcontinental Railroad, the Lincoln Highway, Route 66 and more.
