Bio
Dr. Charles Bruce Orvis was a pioneering California veterinarian and stockman. Shortly after graduating from the Chicago Veterinary College, Orvis moved to Stockton, California to begin a practice.
He was the first veterinarian to use the tuberculin test on cattle in California. He was the first livestock inspector appointed by any county in the state. He helped organize the California State Veterinary Medical Association in 1888.
Around the turn of the century, he retired from active practice and joined his father-in-law in ranching. Orvis served as an early director of the California Cattleman’s Association and as a director of the Stockton Bank of America.
