Bio
Rusty Holler, a Texas native, became the manager of the 60 Bar Ranch in 1948, selected by the Wood family. Raised on a ranch in West Texas, he began breaking horses at 17 for the Matador Ranch.
During World War II, Holler worked in Los Angeles building bombers and met Tex Ritter during his National Guard service. He spent four years as a stuntman in Hollywood before deciding that the cowboy life was more suited to him.
Holler moved to Wyoming, where he and his wife, Jane, managed the 60 Bar for 40 years. Despite Hollywood’s allure, Holler’s passion was ranching. He became a prominent figure in the cowboy community. He also served as a Wyoming Game and Fish Commissioner. He also advocated for pari-mutuel betting in Campbell County and became a skilled pilot and fingerprint expert for the FBI.
The 60 Bar Ranch thrived under his leadership, hosting herds of Hereford cattle, buffalo, and longhorns. In 1987, Holler leased the ranch to Rod Smith, who eventually partnered with the Groeschels to purchase it. The Smith family became the sole owners in 1997, continuing the legacy Holler helped build.
