A city boy who made a top hand, Harry Knight was born at Quebec City, Quebec, in 1907. In his youth Knight broke horses and cowboyed on ranches in the province of Alberta.
Harry Knight became a major star during rodeo’s “golden age.” He competed for the first time in saddle bronc riding at Sundre, Alberta, in 1925. From that year through 1941 he came out on some of rodeo’s rankest broncs, numbering Five Minutes to Midnight and Fiddle Face among his remarkable conquests.
In 1941 Knight went into rodeo production and also became a stock contractor. He owned Big John, Jake, and Joker, three horses selected as PRCA Saddle Broncs of the Year in the 1950s and 1960s. In later years Knight ranched near Fowler, Colorado. He died in 1989.
