Bull riding, Bareback Riding, Saddle Bronc Riding, 1948 – 2005

Hyland qualified for the National Finals every year for 11 consecutive years, ranking in the top 10 from 1967 to 1984. In 1966, he was the under 21 Professional Novice Champion Saddle Bronc Rider. He won the PRCA Saddle Bronc World Championship in 1972 and 1976 and the Canadian Saddle Bronc Championship in 1967, 1972, 1979, and 1982. He was the first person in rodeo history to win both a world championship and Canadian championship in the same year, 1972. Hyland won the Canadian Bareback Champion in 1975. He was named the Canadian Cowboy of the Year and has been inducted in the ProRodeo Hall of Fame, Canadian Cowboy Hall of Fame and the British Columbia Sports Hall of Fame.
