Sherry Johnson Combs
Sherry Johnson Combs was born on August 16, 1938, in Duncan, Oklahoma. Along with her sister, Florence Youree, she grew up on their father’s ranch near Addington, Oklahoma, where they worked as “his boys” and developed a love for horses and rodeo. Sherry became a five-time ARJA barrel racing champion and a two-time all-around champion. In 1962, she won the World Championship in barrel racing, with the help of her horse, Star Plaudit (“Red”). She was a 12-time NFR qualifier and innovator in rodeo rulebooks.
