Velda Tindall Smith began trick riding at twelve, debuting at thirteen before 8,000 spectators at Gilbert’s Ranch Rodeo. Velda excelled in trick riding, flat races, and relay races at major events like Cheyenne Frontier Days. She transitioned to barrel racing and co-founded the Texas Barrel Racing Association, serving as president for five years. At 54, she won grand champion barrel racer at the 1964 Dallas Fair, showcasing her enduring talent and passion for rodeo throughout her life.
