EVENTS
Saddle Bronc Rider
Steer Wrestler

Born in 1912 at Calumet, Oklahoma, James Andrew “Andy” Curtis began his rodeo career in 1927, joining his older brother, Eddie Curtis, on the circuit.

Truly an all-around cowboy, Andy Curtis entered all five events and usually placed in the money. Specializing in saddle-bronc riding and steer wrestling, he won the steer-wrestling championship at Chicago in 1938, 1939, and 1940. A regular on the regional circuit, he took Southwestern Rodeo Association saddle-bronc honors in 1943 and earned the steer-wrestling title in 1944. For 26 consecutive years, Curtis entered his two favorite events at the Madison Square Garden rodeo. In the 1950s Andy Curtis also hazed for his brother, bulldogger Eddie Curtis.

After retiring in 1956, Andy Curtis judged and produced rodeos. He also raised championship quarter horses and operated one of the first rodeo schools, teaching young hands how to win. Andy Curtis died in 1979.
