Working in an act with his brother Bobby, Gene Clark was one of the top clowns and rodeo bullfighters in the sport for more than 30 years. Born in Oklahoma in 1926, Gene Clark originally competed in calf roping and bulldogging.

Gene Clark learned bullfighting in the 1940s, working his first rodeo in 1948. For the next four decades he and his brother, working sometimes as individuals and sometimes as a team, saved hundreds of cowboys from trampling by bulls.

Noted for their original specialty acts, Bobby and Gene Clark performed at all of the major rodeos in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, and in Havana. In 1959 Gene Clark was selected to work the National Finals Rodeo.

After retiring from rodeo, Gene Clark produced junior rodeos in California. Many of his aspiring contestants went on to become professionals.
