Born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, in 1931, R.L. “Bob” Robinson began his rodeo career in the boys’ steer riding in Rolling Hills, Alberta. The son of acclaimed bronc and steer-rider Sykes Robinson, he was a natural athlete who grew into one of Canada’s top bull riders.

Robinson won championships across North America, including the 1953 all-around in Edmonton, Alberta, the saddle-bronc riding at the 1956 Calgary Stampede, and the 1956 Canadian Saddle-bronc Riding Championship. Robinson qualified for the National Finals Rodeo in bull riding in 1962 and 1964, and twice won the bull riding in Salinas, California. He also served as executive secretary for the Rodeo Cowboys Association, 1959-62, and as president of the Canadian Rodeo Cowboys Association, 1973-74, and the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association, 1980-81 and 2004-05.

Bob Robinson also conducted a number of rodeo schools. He was inducted into the Canadian Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame in 1997.
