Gift of Genevieve Belknapp

Beadwork application on pipe stems appeared as early as the late 1800s. The ease of applying beadwork made such an art form adaptable to a broad range of traditional items. The inverted T-shaped bowl is a common type produced on the Northern Plains during the second half of the nineteenth century.
