Bio
William Moffat grew up in the meat industry, working for his father’s company in San Francisco before expanding into a livestock empire in Nevada and California.
Moffatt owned several ranches in Nevada, including the Seventy-One Ranch and Mary’s River Ranch in Elko County. Those, along with others, were known as the Union Land and Cattle Company, with Moffat as the president. He was also president of the Moffat Wholesale Meat Packers operation.
The company suffered after World War I and a collapse in the price of wool. He reformed the H. Moffat Company with a concentration on feedlots.
