Born in 1940 in Butte, Montana, Shawn Davis has participated in rodeo sport for nearly half a century. He trained in intercollegiate rodeo at Western Montana University, and won his first bronc-riding title in 1965. He took the title again in 1967 and 1968.
Following his competitive years, Davis created the intercollegiate rodeo program at the College of Southern Idaho (Twin Falls) and directed it for thirty years. During his tenure, the CSI team captured twenty-four regional championships and three national titles, while Davis also served on the board of the Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) and produced the College National Finals Rodeo for a number of years.
In 1986, Shawn Davis played a principal role in moving the National Finals Rodeo (NFR) from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Los Vegas, Nevada. He has served as general manager for that spectacular venue of champions for a quarter-century.
