Rodeo Livestock Contractor

Lynn Beutler was born on the family homestead near Okarche, Oklahoma Territory, and learned to cowboy on the family ranch near Elk City. In 1929, with his brothers Elra and Jake, Lynn founded a company that became the world’s largest producer of rodeo stock, Beutler Brothers.

The Beutlers had a good eye for “bad bulls” and “bad broncs”; they expanded their string and branched out across Oklahoma. With Lynn as the “front man,” their reputation grew–Beutlers’ stock was a cowboy’s nightmare. Speck, a Brahma bull, was ridden only once in 103 tries over five years. Their bucking string included Lee Rider, Scar Neck, and King Tut (whose action always ended the television series Stony Burk). Lynn Beutler owned the bronc Descent, voted Bucking Horse of the Year for six years.

In 1952 Beutler Brothers bought out producer Verne Elliott and the nation became their market. They produced all the major rodeos–Cheyenne, Colorado Springs, Tucson, Denver, and other cities. In 1954 Lynn and Jake sold out to brother Elra, and in 1967 the two retired. Lynn Beutler passed away at Elk City, Oklahoma, in 1999.
