The Zuni developed a technique of setting a decorative pattern of stones known as “channel inlay” silver. This consists of gluing precut stones into small cloisonnés (defined areas of color separated by metal) and grinding the stones until flush with the surface. The silver dividers that hold the stone in place become part of the pattern.
