Bio

Charles McLeod was an important 19th century merchant in Montana. He worked at the Eddy-Hammond Company in Missoula and became its manager in 1889.

Reorganized as the Missoula Mercantile Company in 1885, McLeod became president and grew the company into a multi-million-dollar business.

The Mercantile Company built Missoula’s first hotel, established the First National Bank, founded a lumber mill in Bonner and built a dam.

McLeod died in 1946, having made substantial contributions to the economic growth of Montana.
