Every once in a while, Joey Niebrugge, our Rodeo Engagement Manager at The Cowboy, is going to be blogging about her journeys around the rodeo world. Joey’s been meeting passionate rodeo fans, dedicated committee members and talented rodeo athletes. It’s been quite a ride for her so far, and she’s eager to see where our journey takes us next!

Boley Rodeo: A Legacy of Excellence, May 24
Established in 1903, the Boley Rodeo holds the distinct honor of being the oldest Black rodeo in the country. This year, fans from across the nation converged on this historic town to celebrate its rich history. The weekend was filled with fun, family-friendly activities, and entertainment, culminating in the highly anticipated 122nd rodeo.

Ben Johnson Days: A Celebration of Western Heritage, June 12 – 15
From June 12th to 15th, the town of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, came alive with Ben Johnson Days, a four-day festival celebrating Osage County’s rich Western heritage. The event featured a variety of rodeo competitions, live music, trade show, and the highlight – the 71st annual Ben Johnson Memorial Steer Roping.
My experience kicked off with a Ranch Tour aboard a converted 1936 Chevrolet school bus, offering a unique glimpse into the area’s ranching traditions. I then had the pleasure of watching the next generation of cowboys and cowgirls compete in the exciting WRCA Youth Ranch Rodeo, followed by an impressive display from steer roping greats.

ProRodeo Hall of Fame: Celebrating Rodeo Legends, July 11 – 12
Members of The Cowboy staff were recently in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to celebrate a special weekend with the PRCA: their annual Cowboy Ball and ProRodeo Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.
We were thrilled to see our dear friends, Red Steagall and Pam Minick, honored at the event. Red Steagall was the deserving recipient of the Ken Stemler Pioneer Award, recognizing his significant contributions to rodeo. Pam Minick joined her husband, Billy Minick, as a distinguished Hall of Fame member.
